DEKALB, IL – In the spirit of friendly intrastate rivalries, ֱ Illinois University and Northern Illinois University are excited to announce the "Goodest Boy in Illinois" challenge between their beloved live mascots, Mission III and Col. Rock "Ray" IV.

This playful competition kicked off on Friday, August 16, at 5 p.m. CST and ends on Saturday, August 31, at 1:30 p.m., prior to the 2:30 p.m. kickoff between the Leathernecks and Huskies at Huskie Stadium in DeKalb. The winner of the "Goodest Boy in Illinois" challenge will be awarded a special doggy bone treat and, of course, bragging rights at the game.

Mission and Ray will engage in a series of fun challenges shared on social media throughout the competition. Fans can look forward to seeing the mascots go head-to-head in a variety of light-hearted tasks, such as ‘trick-offs' (best "shake," "high five" and "speak" tricks, etc.); ‘Who wore it best?' with side by-side photos of the mascots sporting graduation caps, football sweaters and other silly outfits; and ‘Best Game Day Ready Pup.'

Fans are encouraged to cast their vote for "Goodest Boy" with a gift of $5 or more to support their favorite mascot's university. Donations made on either NIU's () or WIU's () giving pages represent mascot votes and help support the universities general scholarship funds. Join in the fun by following the mascots on social media with the hashtag #GoodestBoyInIllinois. Don't miss your chance to support your favorite pup and contribute to a worthy cause at the same time!

Let the best dog win!
