Section 5-1 Storekeeper II

  3. Always Remember
    1. Be a good housekeeper. Keep your work area clean and orderly and free of loose and unnecessary objects.
    2. When walking through a congested area carrying a pen, pencil or other sharp pointed article, you should carry it with the point down in such a manner that you will not cause injury to others.
    3. Keep aisles clear at all times, pick up loose objects and dispose of properly.
    4. You are expected to be familiar with and to observe rules governing parking and traffic conditions.
    5. Be particular in handling paper that you do not put your fingers, face or lips on the edges.
    6. Keep flammable material/objects and glass out of wastebaskets.
    7. Report defective equipment to your supervisor.
    8. Never stand on chairs or stools.
    9. Never sit on the front edge only of office chairs. Sit with your weight properly back into the chair.
    10. Keep fingers away from the point of operation when using staples, punches, paper cutters, etc. Use tools in the right way.
    11. Always keep scissors, knives and letter openers in the front part of desk drawers.
    12. No machines should be operated without permission and instructions by your supervisor.
    13. Do not remove, readjust, or change safety guards or protective devices, unless instructed to do so by your supervisor.
    14. Only authorized employees may start electrically-driven equipment.
    15. Only duly instructed employees are permitted to change fuses or make repairs to electrical equipment.
    16. Report to your supervisor immediately all defective electrical wiring such as bare wire, frayed cords, loose conduit, etc.
    17. Power and telephone outlets and connections should be installed in such a manner that they do not create a tripping hazard.
    18. Cords, when temporarily used, should be made noticeable by guards or markings.
    19. Do not attempt to lift or carry anything that is too heavy or bulky to be handled safely by one person. If a lifting device cannot be used, get help.
    20. Always open and close drawers by using handle. All drawers should be closed when not in use.
    21. Avoid overloading upper section of filing cabinets or standing on or in lower drawers.
    22. Open doors slowly, and when going through double doors, use the door to the right.
    23. Learn the location of the fire extinguisher and fire alarm boxes in your work area.
    24. Fire hazards should be reported to your supervisor.
    25. Never block fire equipment.

Section 5-2 Route Driver

  1. Inspect the vehicle for broken glass, oil leaks, gasoline leaks, or other damages. Report all problems.
  2. Make sure all lights and the horn are in good condition.
  3. When operating a university vehicle, you must
  4. When the heater or air conditioner is in use, crack one or two windows to reduce carbon monoxide hazards. wear lap and shoulder belts.
  5. Obey all speed limit and traffic laws.
  6. When backing look over right shoulder or use each outside mirror. If unsure of a clear path, have someone guide you.
  7. If the vehicle is equipped with a power lift, it should only be used by trained operators and only if it is in good operating condition.
  8. When lowering a power lift, make sure feet are clear.
  9. Ensure that all cargo is secure, so it will not shift.
  10. When parked on a street, use four way flashers.
  11. Only authorized university personnel may ride in a university vehicle.
  12. Alcohol and other controlled substances must never be used.
  13. Prescription and over-the-counter medicine should be used with care. They may cause drowsiness or other side effects.
  14. Check for on-coming traffic before exiting or entering a vehicle.
  15. Be a defensive driver.
