A Commitment to Diversity
In keeping with the spirit of Higher Values in Higher Education, and our institutional values and mission, diversity is a priority at ´ºÓêÖ±²¥ Illinois University.
WIU's mission is to provide a community of individuals dedicated to learning that will have a profound and positive impact on our changing world through the unique interaction of instruction, research, and public service as we educate and prepare a diverse student population to thrive in and make positive contributions to our global society.
The University celebrates, recognizes, values, and would like to further enhance the diversity of its campus community. As a public institution, our students, faculty, and staff should reflect the broad diversity of a global society. articulates the University's position with regard to equal opportunity and affirmative action.
Here at WIU, we are actively engaged in recruiting and retaining faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. President Huang's Statement on Diversity supports activities and programs that enhance the diversity of our WIU community. As such, the Office of the Provost and Academic Vice President is preserving and expanding the recruitment of underrepresented minority faculty and administrative staff.
In an effort to recruit and retain underrepresented minority faculty and administrative staff, the University has Competitive Benefits Plans, the Dual Career Retention and Recruitment Program, and the C.T. Vivian Teaching Scholars Program and Visiting Professor Programs. These initiatives are essential to positioning ´ºÓêÖ±²¥ as a premier institution, to be noted for its excellence, richness, and vibrancy as it relates to a diverse faculty and administrative staff.
